The road referendum was successful! Thanks to the residents of Machesney Park for voting to fix our roads. The referendum passed by a 59% to 41% margin, which is a huge victory for everyone living in the village. Already, the village is preparing a timeline and prioritizing the road projects. Beginning as early as this summer, our citizens will begin seeing roads repaired.
The overwhelming support allows the village to collect a 1% sales tax that will be devoted solely to repairing streets. The additional revenues are estimated to be approximately $12-$15 million over the five-year life of the tax. By using sales tax dollars, everyone who shops in the village will help fix our roads. This, together with putting a 5-year limit on the tax, added accountability to the residents.
The Citizens for Roads Committee thanks everyone who came out to vote, for placing your confidence in the village to fix our roads and make this community a better place to live and work. We know you will be happy with the outcome.

And you did!
